Epatha Merkerson is an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning American actress best known for playing Lieutenant Anita Van Buren on NBC's Law & Order from 1993 to 2010, the longest-running Black character in American TV drama history. She's since starred as Sharon Goodwin on Chicago Med, and her stage work includes a Tony-nominated turn in August Wilson's The Piano Lesson. Other credits include Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Lincoln.
